Gorria

Gorria Maddi Barber

Gorria means red. The play begins with the traditional slaughter of a lamb. The colour red is very present in farm work; it is the colour of blood. In Basque, gorria does not only refer to the colour, it is also used as an adjective in different ways and refers to something alive, fierce, hard, rough, intense, deep and extreme. The use of celluloid film turns red, giving the title even more symbolic value. It is not common to focus on animals, make them the protagonists of a story and show the different relationships we have with them. From an anthropological point of view, the film refers to respect and care between species.
